Die alte und mächtige Familie stammt ursprünglich aus Rom und hatte zu Hause viel Autorität. Soncaro Konsul der Soldaten im Jahre 1166; Iacopo vom Ältestenrat 1176. Die Tornaquinci stellten sich 1215 auf die Seite der Buondelmonti, dann der Welfen und meldeten sich 1260 bei Monteaperti. Gherardo Ventroja, der die königlichen Insignien in die Schlacht von Campaldino 1289 brachte, trug effektiv zum Sieg der Welfen bei . Cipriano, Foglia, Gentile und Cardinale markierten 1280 den Frieden von Kardinal Latino und wurden 1282 in die Justiz aufgenommen, nachdem sie 1284 bereits viermal in der Person von Messer Ruggero das Priorat erhalten hatten.
