Maison très noble du Royaume des Deux-Siciles, originaire de la ville de Caltanissetta, répartie au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie. Giovanni Torregrossa, le 28 novembre 1811, fut investi de 180 onces, 15 tarì, 19 grit, 3 annuels de richesse féodale sur l'état de San Cataldo, avec le titre de baron. Par la suite, l'architecte Rosario Torregrossa, di Giovanni, di Rosario, a été inscrit sur la liste officielle définitive des familles nobles et titrées de la région sicilienne, toujours avec le titre de baron. De même, la famille Torregrossa est inscrite au Livre d'or de la noblesse italienne.
