Very ancient and very illustrious Spanish family, whose branch passed to Italy, settling in the Kingdom of Naples, in the person of Don Luigi, of the Supreme Council of Emperor Charles V and who was archbishop of Salerno. His nephews, Don Luigi and Don Hernando, became the one archbishop of Monreale, the other knight of the Order of S. Giacomo della Spada. Just the latter, sent by the Catholic King to the Papal Court, married Pantesilea Sanguigni, the last of his family and settled permanently in Rome, where his family was joined to that patriciate. Furthermore, this family was received in the Order of Malta in 1574 and gave birth to Ludovico, patron of Tasso, named cardinal in 1606 by Paul V, and to Cosimo, also decorated with the sacred purple, in 1622.
