A antiga e nobre família toscana atribuída à nobreza de Pisa se espalhou ao longo dos séculos em diferentes regiões da Itália, onde existem algumas variações cognominais como Storto, Lostorto, Daltorto, del Torto ... Um Giorgio de Torto apoiou o local por Marquardo Patriarca de Aquileja, capitão geral de Imperat. Carlos IV na Toscana em 1365. Michel-Angelo e Vincenzo, filhos de Ranieri, vestiram em 1700 o vestido dos cavaleiros de S. Stefano, dos quais a Ordem o primeiro foi eleito grande tesoureiro em 1728.
