Una delle più illustri famiglie di Pontremoli, ove godette i primi onori e contrasse alleanza con famiglie di primaria nobiltà, quali i Monaldi, i Reghini, i Maracchi, ecc. Ad essa appartenne il celebre Niccodemo, di Giovanni, decorato della contea palatina dall'imperatore Federigo III con diploma 27 ottobre 1457 e dal pontefice Pio II con diploma 16 aprile 1459. Firenze lo volle ascritto alla cittadinanza con provvisione 30 marzo 1450, e similmente Siena con deliberazione 4 giugno 1456. I T. furono ascritti alla nobiltà di Pontremoli con Decreto 29 novembre 1782. La famiglia è iscritta nell'Elenco Ufficiale Nobiliare Italiano col titolo di nobile di Pontremoli (mf.), in persona dei disc. da Sforza, di Giovanni. La presenza del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti
