Derivazione, secondo alcuni autori, della nobile famiglia. Passata da Nicotera a Tropea nel 1533 fu aggregata a quel nobile patriziato e ne godette gli onori sino all'abolizione dei sedili. Nel 1588 Giovan Giacomo ebbe il possesso di Precacore, elevato a ducato il 26 sett. 1654 in persona di Carlo. Questa fam. venne decorata per successione Francoperta, del titolo di principe di Cosoleto concesso originariamente a Giuseppe Francoperta con R. Diploma 14 dic. 1671. Fu ricevuta per giustizia nell'Ordine di Malta nel 1724 in persona di Antonio, per pruova fatta da Giacobbe Giovanni, primo stipite nel 1588. Nel 1850 fu dichiarata ammissibile nelle RR. Guardie del Corpo. La famiglia è iscritta nell'Elenco Ufficiale Nobiliare Italiano del 1922 col titolo di patrizio di Tropea (m.) e attualmete si divide in cinque rami. Primo ramo: Discendenti da Ignazio, di Vincenzo, ascritto al Registro P. Ch. (n. I° novembre 1789, deced. 8 gennaio 1874).
