Alte sizilianische Familie mit Wohnsitz in der Stadt Mazara von klarer und überlieferter Tugend, die sich über die Jahrhunderte in verschiedenen Regionen Italiens verbreitet hat. Der anerkannte Stammvater der Familie ist ein Alberto, der von König Alfonso in vielen Büros in Kalabrien geehrt wird. Tatsächlich zog die Familie nach Reggio Calabria, wo er lange und edel lebte. Giovan Domenico (1620), Giovanni (1688) und Giuseppe (1715) waren Bürgermeister der Adligen. Am 29. April 1719 wurde Filippo Maria Trapani vom Kaiser Karl VI. Mit dem Titel Marquis della Petina in Principato Citra ausgezeichnet. Titel, der auf einem anderen feudalen Gebiet in den Abruzzen platziert wurde, das auch Petina genannt wurde. Mit Real Rescritto am 13. März 1856 wurde der Titel des Marquis della Petina an Pasquale, Urenkel des ersten Konzessionärs und Ehemanns von Maddalena di Gaeta, Marquise von Montepagano, anerkannt, der in diesem Titel mit R. Rescritto am 20. Mai 1841 anerkannt
