Famiglia lucchese, originaria da Cerreto di Sotto presso il Borgo a Mozzano, dove è ricordato nel secolo XVII il capitano Alessandro, di Nicolò. Con decreto del 1° aprile 1738, Pier Francesco, di Jacopo, fu creato cittadino lucchese per privilegio e, con successivo decreto del 14 aprile 1767, fu accordata alla famiglia la nobiltà originaria. A Giacomo T., la cui consorte Rosa, nata Talenti, fu dama di compagnia della duchessa Maria Teresa di Savoia, consorte di Carlo Lodovico di Borbone, duca di Lucca, venne concesso, con decreto del 19 gennaio 1834, il titolo di conte (m.). La famiglia è iscritta genericamente nell'Elenco Ufficiale Italiano del 1922 coi titoli di conte (m.) e nobile di Lucca (mf.), in persona dei disc. da Luigi, di Francesco.
