La famiglia di Forlì è oriunda da Reggio Emilia. La sua nobiltà si fa risalire al secondo XVIII. Ebbe il titolo di patrizio di Forlì (1828) e di San Marino (1820). Da Innocenzo, di Girolamo, di Forlì, che sposò la contessa Rosa Felice Cignani, nacque nel 1808 Lorenzo, che si unì in matrimonio, nel 1835, con Maria del marchese Monsignani di Forlì. Da questo connubio nacque Innocenzo II nel 1837, il quale nel 1867 sposò Maria Anna, figlia del dottor Bartolomeo Pellegrini, nobile lucchese, e di Giuseppe dei conti Tolonesi di Pistoia. Ebbe vari figli: Lorenzo (nato nel 1878), dottore in legge; Pietro (nato nel 1880); Rosino (nato nel 1890) e Maria, sposa ad un Bressanin di Venezia. Altro figlio di Lorenzo, di Innocenzo, fu Felice (nato nel 1841, defunto nel 1891); fu sua moglie Beatrice Golfarelli, da cui ebbe un'unica figlia di nome Vittoria (nata nel 1871) e sposata
