Antichissima e nobilissima famiglia di Ancona originaria da Costantinopoli. Venne in Italia nel VII secolo, ed ebbe subito parte nel governo del libero comune di Ancona, e da allora deve riguardarsi il suo patriziato anconetano. Dette in ogni tempo uomini illustri alla patria; sono da ricordare Grazioso, vescovo di Novara nel 793, venerato sugli altari con il titolo di "beato"; Bonizzone, insigne scrittore, vescovo di Sutri e poi di Piacenza, dove subì il martirio nel 1089. Agostino -il beato- illustre teologo e scrittore dell'Ordine agostiniano, autore di molte opre religiose tra cui la celebratissima nel M.E. "De Potestate Ecclesiastica", dove sostiene i diritti della Chiesa contro l'imperatore; fu discepolo di San Tommaso d'Aquino, e a lui successe alla Sorbona, e quale rappresentante del papa Gregorio I al Concilio di Lione nel 1294; morì a Napoli il 2 aprile 1328.
