Famiglia di origine napoletana. Fu nei tempi Angioini molto numerosa d'individui tanto da comporre un Seggio che fu detto de' Trocco. Ridotti a cinque i molti Saggi di Napoli, la famiglia Trocco fece parte del Seggio di Montagna, dove ha goduto sino alla metá del secolo XVII. Dopo la cennata epoca non vi é stato piú alcuno della detta famiglia che vi fosse intervenuto, e peró alcuni scrittori hanno detto ch'ella era estinta. Ma il Tribunale civile di Napoli con deliberazione in camera di Consiglio del 20 Luglio 1860, sulla istanza del Commendatore Giovanni Trocco, dichiaró che lo stesso discendeva per diritta linea primogeniale da Giovanni Trocco del Seggio di Montagna, marito ad Ippolita Carafa, e fratello di quel Carlo Trocco che nel 1641 ebbe il titolo di Principe di Torrepadula. Per questa regione ricorderemo in questo discorso il Commendatore Giovanni Trocco non memo che il padre ed i figlio
