Família muito antiga e nobre originária de Abruzzo. A origem dessa cognominação é anterior ao século XVI e deve derivar da Troia étnica na área de Foggia, mas também é possível uma derivação do nome medieval Troianus, das quais existem várias descobertas entre os inscritos na Universidade de Perugia na segunda metade dos anos 1500. por exemplo, com um certo Troianus Francucius. A família foi decorada com o Decreto Real motu proprio, de 20 de maio, e a Regie Lettere Patenti, de 5 de julho de 1928, do título de barão transmissível para a linha masculina primordial. A bibliografia dessa família é mencionada pelo Marquês Vittorio Spreti, em sua Enciclopédia Histórica-Nobre Italiana impressa em Milão em 1936.
