Los datos que tenemos de este apellido indican que es originario de Aragón. Y el caballero más anitguo así apellidado de que tenemos noticia es Gonzalo Sánchez de T. Lo menciona Salazar y Castro, pero no descubre su procedencia. Sólo dice que fué Señor de la villa de Fregenal de la Sierra (Badajoz) y que casó con doña Emilia de Mendoza, hija de Juan Fernández de Mendoza, Señor de muchos vasallos, casado en Sevilla, durante el reinado de Sancho IV, con doña Emilia de Manzanedo. Está comprobado, sin lugar a duda, que en Aragón hubo una antigua casa solar, cuyos descendientes se apellidaron García y T. Esta casa estaba sita en la villa de Torrellas, del partido judicial de Tarazona (Zaragoza). Una de sus líneas residió en Corella (Navarra) y obtuvo confirmación de su hidalguía, como originaria de dicho solar, mediante ejecutoria librada en el año 1804 por los Tribunales Reales de Corte y Consejo de Navarra.
