Famiglia insigne per tradizioni di beneficenza e per grandiose iniziative industriali. Un Giuseppe veniva da Pinerolo ove nacque nel 1806. Egli aveva sposato Ernesta Raimondi, la quale, fervente italiana in tempi difficili, incoraggiò e favorì segretamente la spedizione dei Mille. Entrato negli impieghi dello Stato e di Casa Reale, vi raggiunse i sommi gradi. Nel "Calendario Reale del 1867", Giuseppe figura come primo segretario di S.M. per i cerimoniali di Corte ed è insignito di numerose decorazioni, quali di ufficiale mauriziano e degli Ordini del Sole e del Leone di Persia e di Leopoldo del Belgio; di cavaliere degli Ordini di Cristo e della Concezione del Portogallo, dell'Aquila Rossa di Prussia, della Legion d'Onore di Francia e del Medjidiè di Turchia.
