Les souvenirs les plus anciens de cette famille témoignent des habitants de Trotti à Gamondio, d'où ils passèrent à Alessandria, d'où ils bifurquèrent vers Milan, Ferrara, Fossano, Cherasco et peut-être Turin et la France. Des études récentes reconnectent la famille à la grande lignée Manfredingo et leur attribuent comme ancêtre un Henry (1165).
