Antigua e ilustre familia lombarda, de origen teutón, repartida a lo largo de los siglos en diversas regiones de Italia. La génesis de este apellido hay que buscarla en la unión entre el nombre lombardo "Trusso" y el sufijo "-hard", es decir, "fuerza". La noble familia Trussi de Brescia también quería ser de la misma agnación.
