Antiga e ilustre família do Reino de Nápoles, que se espalhou ao longo dos séculos em várias regiões da Itália e da Europa. A origem deste sobrenome encontra-se no "Turdus" pessoal, muito usado no período latino tardio. De acordo com o que nos é transmitido, esta família foi agregada ao patriciado de Salerno.
