Antico casato, la cui storia risulta fortemente legata a quella della villa, oggi Turrini Rossi Nicolaj, nel comune di Crespellano, edificata verso la fine del Settecento, come luogo di ozio del proprietario, così come rivela l'iscrizione ("Ut in otia tuta recedam") che corre lungo l'architrave della facciata. La sua storia affonda le proprie radici nel tardo Cinquecento, quando il fondo, che all'epoca prendeva il nome di "Serraglio", era di proprietà, appunto, della famiglia Turrini e vedeva la presenza di una casa in muratura, di un pozzo, di un forno e di terreni coltivati. Nel frattempo i fratelli Giacomo Filippo e Antonio Maria Turrini si erano trasferiti da Sassuolo in Bologna, ove si arricchirono notevolmente, mediante l'esercizio del banco. Nel corso del tempo, con il prosperare della famiglia, anche i loro possedimenti di Calcara si ampliarono e la casa padronale fu trasformata in palazzo. L'ascesa della famiglia Turrini giunse all'apice nel 1722,
