Famiglia di Castiglione di Sicilia in territorio di Catania e che si ritiene importata a Messina da Lucca da un Pompeo nel 1286. In un indice delle famiglie nobili esistente nell'Archivio provinciale di Messina è ricordata anche questa famiglia, tra quelle che andarono ad incontrare l'imper. Carlo III di Spagna. Dal processo per l'Ordine di Malta, di Giuseppe Castelli, nel 1732, risulta che questa fam. ebbe più volte la toga senatoria, fu ascritta alla Mastra Nobile della città e fra gli altri Giovanni, ascritto nel 1622, discendente da altro Giovanni, senatore, e che trapiantò il suo ramo da Messina a Castiglione di Sicilia. Sposò in primi voti nel 1711 Maria Bardolato e Gioeni che hon gli dette discendenza, e in secondi Anna Lanza, dalla quale discendono gli attuali rappresentanti Altro Giovanni, che fissò la sua dimora in Castiglione, nel 1809 sposò Barbara Calì e per estinzione di questa famiglia ereditò
