Casa magnatizia e antica e potentissima in patria, dove aveva torre, loggia e palazzi, ed il patronato della chiesa di S. Maria, da essa detta degli Ughi. Le appartenne pure il poggio, ora situato fuori porta S. Gallo, e per questo si disse Montughi, ora corrottamente Montui. Aveva inoltre il privilegio di difendere la Chiesa e per questo era pur detta degli Avvocati, ed in correspettività dell'obbligo che avevano gli Ughi di difendere la persona ed i beni della mensa vescovile, venivano ogni anno dal Vescovo riconosciuti con doni di vivande. Ottennero essi per sei volte il priorato ed una il gonfalonierato. Giorgio di Nicolò, insieme con Tommaso Baroncelli, introdusse in Firenze l'arte del battiloro da lui appresa in Milano circa il 1427. Note: Si trovano anche i cognomi «Punzetti», «Ponzetti», usati solo nel Medioevo, e «Avvocati», quest'ultimo attribuito alla famiglia in quanto Avvocati e Difensori dell'Arcivescovado fiorentino. I cittadini del Lion bianco venivano distinti come «Ughi di Consiglio».
