Famiglia assai antica e nobile, annoverata tra le più antiche di Forlì, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia, ove i suoi membri, accolti nelle importanti cariche delle città dove ebbero dimora, furono cospicui ed acquisirono la nobiltà. Nel 1317 Bartolomeo Oderlaffi dava in beneficio ad Ugolino, diverse terre già possedute dai Puntiroli, famiglia che era nota in Forlì ed a Ferrara fino dal sec. XV. Ugolino, di Matteo (1397) fu decapitato per ordine di Guido Torelli, allora capitano d'armi in Forlì, perchè sospetto di avere voluto dare la città a Giorgio di Tebaldo Oderlaffi, mentre il Torelli voleva assoggettarla al marchese Nicolò d'Este. Fra Giacomo, dell'Ordine di San Bernardo, fu uomo di grande pietà e profonda dottrina e nel 1378 priore dell'ospedale di S. Pietro in Forlì.
