Antichissima famiglia, à goduto nobiltà in Matera, ed al presente è istinta, Nel 1204 si à memoria di un Angelo abate di S. Maria della Nova, figlio di sire Bisancio, castellano di Matera ed avvocato di detta chiesa. Enrico nel 1269 fu vicario del principe di Salerno e venne decorato del titolo dilectus miles familiaris et fidelis noster. Michele nel 1275 fu portolano di Trani. Un ramo di questa famiglia nel 1540 si trapiantò in Taranto, alla cui nobiltà venne aggregato, e si spense alla fine del XVIII secolo. Lo stemma della famiglia è: D'azzurro, all'olmo di verde, cimato da una colomba d'argento. Alias ramo di Taranto. D'oro, all'olmo di verde, accostato da. due leoni al naturale, affrontati e controrampanti.
