Com base no que Loper García de Salazar escreveu em "Bienandanzas e Fortunas", coletamos a versão que Luis de Salazar nos oferece sobre a origem desse sobrenome em sua obra "Origem de 300 sobrenomes castelhanos e bascos". Um dos normandos que desembarcou em Santoña (Santander) se estabeleceu em Urdiales muito antes da fundação da cidade de Castro em Santander, hoje Castro Urdiales.
