Família basca nobre e antiga que teve seu lote primitivo na anteiglesia de Ispáster, da festa de Marquina em Vizcaya. A nobreza de Uriarte foi reconhecida desde os tempos antigos. Seis de seus cavaleiros pertenciam à Ordem de Santiago. Outras famílias uriarte, talvez do mesmo tronco, residiam nas ante-igrejas de Larrabezúa, do partido de Bilbao; San Salvador de Frúniz, Arrieta, Mendaca, Morga, Munguía e a cidade de Bermeo, todas do Partido Guernica e também em Vizcaya. Essa família também possuía lotes em Álava, Guipúzcoa e nas cidades de Larrabezúa, Zumaya, Araya e Zurbano; o último vindo da antiga casa de Ispáter. O Uriarte alcançou os títulos de Marqués de Vaciaquito, Conde de Acebuche, Valdediós e Vizconde de Torrepicos. Don Miguel de U. y Herrera, um professado Cavaleiro do Hábito de Santiago, casou-se com Dona María de Borja e Lasteros, que teve oito filhos. O segundo deles, padre Francisco de U.
