Família antiga e nobre originária de Amurrio (Álava). São suas armas: Gules, com nove painéis de prata, colocados três, três e três. Borda quadriculada de duas ordens de prata e ouro. Moeda: "Regina Sacratíssimi Rosari orat pro nobis". Com base em referências de historiadores da época e outros encontrados por Araldis nos arquivos de registro de cidades e outros particulares, poderíamos afirmar, mas não garantir, que este escudo ou outro muito semelhante a ele apareceu inicialmente entre os dias 11 e 14 século, particularmente na campanha de Don Lope Diaz de Haro contra Sancho el Fuerte de Navarra, fazendo parte das tropas que tomaram vários castelos e cidades. As referências desta família parecem ser especificadas com mais frequência do século XV ao XIX, especialmente os fatos da consolidação da conquista americana, sendo secretário de Dom Francisco de Ibarra que em 24 de julho de 1562 foi nomeado Avanço e Governador
