Très antique chevalerie, issue des vicomtes de Ventadour puînés des vicomtes de Comborn et de Limoges. L'une des plus considérables et puissantes races de la Marche et du Limousin. Guillaume et Pierre contribuèrent en 1157, à la fondation de l'abbaye de Bonne-Aigue. Hélie et Ebles en furent les bienfaiteurs de 1170 à 1208. Armand devint abbé de Pébrac en 1276, il l'était encore en 1304. Deux chanoines-comtes de Brioude (1276-1700); des chevaliers bannerets; des chevaliers de l'ordre du roi; des gentilshommes de la chambre; des troubadours; des chevaliers, commandeurs et dignitaires de l'ordre de Malte; des pages du roi; plusieurs capitaines d'hommes d'armes; de nombreux officiers supérieurs, etc. Preuves pour monter dans les carrosses du roi au XVIIIème siècle Très belles alliances. Une branche de cette famille encore existante, s'est perpétuée par substitution sous le nom d'Anglars de Bassignac.
