Famille française très ancienne et noble, qui s'est propagée en Italie au XVIe siècle. Il appartenait à la haute bourgeoisie du Puy Un Jean, fils de Pierre, précepteur de Guillome du Monastier, fils de Reymond, qui lui concéda divers fiefs au Puy entre 1362 et 1389. La famille se divise en diverses branches, dont l'une arriva en Italie au XVIe siècle. L'une, aujourd'hui disparue, est restée en Velay avec François, serviteur de Jean II de Polignac, seigneur d'Adjac (1511) ; un autre s'installe à Carpentras en 1509 avec Jean, notaire et premier chancelier de la cour suprême de la Rectorerie. Un de ses frères passa à Nîmes, formant une branche qui donna à la ville des conseillers et des hommes illustres ; un autre frère, Nicolas, passa dans le royaume des Deux-Siciles avec les troupes de Louis XII.
