Linhagem muito antiga, pois já no reinado de D. Afonso Henriques vivia D. Soeiro Aires de V., filho de Aries Nunes e de sua mulher, D. Examea Nunes. Foi o primeiro que usou o apelido de V., tirado de lugar do mesmo nome, junto ao rio Minho, cujo senhorio possuía e nele morava. Recebeu-se com D. Maria Pires de Fornelos, em primeira núpcias de dela teve D. Pino Soares de V., e casou segunda vez com D. Elvira Nunes Velho, filha de D. Nuno Soares Velho e de sua mulher D. Maior Pires da Silva, de quem houve também geração. Alguns autores dizem que D. Pai Soares de V. era filho do segundo matrimónio. Teve o senhorio de V. no tempo de D. Afonso Henriques e casou com D. Elivra Vasques de Soverosa filha de D. Vasco Fernandes de Soverosa, rico-homem, e de D. Teresa Gonçalves de Sousa. Levou-lhe a mulher pelo casamento a honra de Oliveira e muitas fazendas assim com a terra de Gaia.
