El origen de este ilustre apellido, por referencias de historiadores de la época y otras averiguadas por Araldis en los archivos registrales de ciudades y otros privados, podríamos afirmar, pero no asegurar, que este escudo u otro muy similar a él, apareció inicialmente desde el siglo XI al XIV, particularmente en la toma de Barcelona el año 803, formando parte de las tropas que Alfonso II envió a su aliado y amigo Carlomagno para reforzar el sitio que las tropas francas y el godo Bera habían iniciado en el año 801 contra el gobernador de Barcelona el islámico Zado.
