Una delle più grande ed illustri famiglie siciliane, che gli scrittori patri dicono derivare da' conti di Ampurias nella Catalogna, discendenti dai re Goti. Fè due passaggi in Sicilia; il primo, nel 1282 per un Simone V. bajolo dell'infante Pietro di Aragona e ceppo de' baroni del Godrano. Detto Simone secondo riferisce Inveges, fu uno de' conquistatori dell'isola delli Gerbi in Africa, ove edificò un castello che chiamò Valguarnera. Furono celebri, il di lui figlio Francesco pel suo valore e fedeltà al re, ed altro Francesco capitan generale dell'armata di re Ladislao di Napoli. Il secondo passaggio ebbe luogo pei fratelli Simone e Vitale V. nobili catalani accompagnando re Martino, da cui il Simone ottenne la castellania a vita di Paternò e col fratello Vitale la baronia della terra d'Asaro. Per la morte di essi fu chiamato da Catalogna ad ereditare il fratello primogenito Francesco, il quale lasciando in Catalogna
