Antica ed assai nobile famiglia del Regno di Napoli, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Conosciuta come Valletta o la Valletta, la chiara nobiltà di questa casata risulta ulteriormente confermata dalla sua presenza nel pregevolissimo "Dizionario storico-blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane estinte e fiorenti" dello storico, genealogista ed araldista Giovan Battista di Crollalanza, pubblicato a Pisa nel 1886 in tre volumi. Non solo. Nell'opera araldica "Storia della città di Lucera" di Giambattista D'Amelj, pubblicata nel 1861, la famiglia Valletta viene definita "nobilissima". Questa casata appartenne infatti al patriziato della città di Lucera sin da tempi molto antichi, prima ancora che Musone di Fabriano, capitano di Lucera, Termoli e Foggia, presiedette alla suddivisione delle terre di Lucera, secondo i diversi ceti e censi, nella seconda metà del XIV secolo; ed infatti rinveniamo un Federigo Valletta, nobile milite di Lucera, fiorente nel
