Antica ed assai nobile famiglia del ducato di Gueldre, nei Paesi Bassi, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Europa, con maggiori diramazioni in Portogallo, nella città di Londra ed in Francia, e del Mondo. La chiara nobiltà del casato è testimoniata dalla presenza, della sua blasonatura, nella pregevole opera, di J.B. Riestap, "L'Armorial General" e nell'autorevole "Armorial Lusitano - Anuário da Nobreza de Portugal". Secondo quanto ci viene tramandato, un Arnaldo Van Zeller ha fondato la cattedrale di San Rombaldo in Malinas ed egli fu sepolto nell'altare dedicato alla vergine, con iscrizione datata 1215. Nel 1325, un João Diogo Van Zeller era "marechal da corte" di Guilherm Juliers, duca di Gueldre e conte di Zutphen; la stessa carica fu tenuta, nel 1425, da un Reinaldo Van Zeller che, con suo fratello João, fu mandato da Arnaldo, duca di Gueldre, a negoziare la pace
