Família proveniente do ducado de Gueldre, nos Países Baixos. Os elementos colhidos em crónicas ou inscrições tumulares mostram que Arnaldo van Z., fundou na catedral de St. Rambaut, em Malinas, 12 prebendas em honra da Virgem, as quais forma transformadas, em 1645, em canonicatos pelo arcebispo Jacques Boonem , tomando os cónegos o nome de zelarianos. Este Arnaldo está enterrado no altar dedicado à Virgeme e a inscrição tem a data de 1215, João Diogo, van Z. em 1325 era maredhal da corte de Guilherm e de Juliers, duque de Gueldre e Conde de Zutphen, cargo que em 1425 era desempenhado por Reinaldo van Z. que com seu irmão João van Z, foi mandado por Arnaldo, Duque de Gueldre, negociar a paz com Rodolfo de Cléves, cujo tratado assinaram em 1424.
