Famille d'humble origine. Filiation depuis Jacques, charpentier, de Montpellier, marié le 19 mars 1651 à Jeanne Bourgade. Pierre, leur fils, né à Montpellier le 31 décembre 1653, célèbre sculpteur vellave, fut amené avec une partie des siens à Monistrolsur-Loire par Monseigneur de Béthune. Il épousa dans cette ville, le 17 juin 1682, Marie Hoctein originaire de Tournon dont plusieurs enfants. Il fit une belle fortune et moûrut au Puy, le 29 juin 1694. Son beau- frère et collaborateur: Mathieu Bonfils, marié le 13 mai 1691 à Elisabeth Vaneau, fut aussi un artiste de talent. Louis, fils aîné de Pierre précité, devint plusieurs fois premier consul du Puy par commission du roi (1745-1747-1749-1751-1753 et 1755). Un chanoine de Notre Dame du Puy: Armand (1690-1767).
