Antica famiglia originaria da Scorticata. Francesco, figlio di Gaspare, detto anche Avanzi, andò ad abitare nel 1505 in S. Clemente, territorio del comune di S. Arcangelo ed ivi sposò Bernardina Bellino. Morì nel 1544 lasciando vari figli, fra i quali Lodovico e Sebastiano. Quest'ultimo si diede alla carriera ecclesiastica che percorse brillantemente. Pubblicò varie e pregevoli opere di legge. Fu referendario dell'una e dell'altra Segnatura. Venne inviato dal pontefice Pio IV al Concilio di Trento. Nal 1560. fu eletto vescovo di Orvieto. Nello stesso anno venne aggregato con la sua famiglia alla nobiltà di Rimini. Morì nella sua diocesi di Orvieto il 9 marzo 1571 in età di anni 57. Il ricordato Lodovico, fu consigliere nobile in Rimini, ove morì nel 1584 lasciando, fra gli altri figli, Giovanni, che nel 1608 ebbe per figlio Vincenzo, dottore di leggi, marito di Lucrezia di Ercole Clari e padre di Ignazio, nato
