Antigua familia milanesa, llamada Varese, Varesi di Rosate o Varesio, cuyos primeros recuerdos se encuentran a principios de siglo. XV, con un Giovanni V., decurion en Milán en 1408. Fueron estos padre de Bartolomeo, un médico físico, quien generó Ambrogio (dec. 1522), también este médico físico y quien fue el archivero del duque Gian Galeazzo, quien lo invirtió con el feudo del Pieve di Rosate, con un título de comital que se puede transmitir a todos los hombres en el infinito; el mismo título, en 1515, fue confirmado por Massimiliano Sforza. Marcantonio nació de Ambrogio (dec. 1529), quien fue decurion, comisionado del Magistrado Extraordinario y, en 1519, senador electo. Engendró a Pietro Antonio, miembro de la Corte Provisional y capitán de los ejércitos de Carlos V; uno de sus hermanos Lodovico fue decurion en Milán y su hijo Niccolò murió de peste en 1576.
