Familia muy noble, originaria de España, traída al napolitano en el siglo XVII por Giovan-Crisostomo de Vergas quien, investido de importantes cargos judiciales, alcanzó el alto grado de presidente de la SRC en un diploma emitido el 15 de mayo de 1660 por el rey Felipe IV. Para el mencionado Giovan-Cisostomo, los titioli de marqués de la Villa de S. Vincenzo, del conde de Porto y Vergel, del señor de Urgas y Varguillos, y de idalgo, infanzone y noble de Aragón, Castilla y Leona, fueron reconocidos a este así como el grandato de España y el derecho hereditario bajo las órdenes de Calatrara, S. Giacomo y Alcantara; diploma que luego fue confirmado por el emperador Carlos VI en 1733.
