Famiglia siciliana che si ritiene originaria da Firenze donde un ramo fu portato in Sicilia al tempo di re Alfonso d'Aragona e ove godette le baronie di Balatagrande (o Balatella Grande) e di Pasquasia. Bartolomeo, cavaliere di gran croce dell'Ordine di Malta, combatté valorosamente per la repubblica di Venezia col grado di sergente maggiore alla guerra di Candia contro i turchi nel 1675; Gioacchino, frate benedettino, fu versatissimo nelle lingue classiche, fu vicario generale, e completò il tempio di S. Cataldo istituendo inoltre un Monte per i poveri; Angelo, intemerato patriota, si distinse nel 1848 e nel 1870 nelle campagne contro il governo Borbonico. Pietro, il I novembre 1812, risulta ultimo investito del titolo di signore di Balatella Grande e Giuseppe, il I settembre 1790, ultimo investito del titolo di signore di Pasquasia. La famiglia è iscritta genericamente nell'Elenco Ufficiale Nobiliare Italiano col titolo
