Antigua y muy noble familia piamontesa, con residencia en Moncalieri, de clara y ancestral virtud, conocida como Varrò o Varrà, repartida a lo largo de los siglos en diversas regiones de Italia. La familia fue elevada a la nobleza en 1389 y una de sus ramas también disfrutó de la nobleza en Ginebra. Un Pierino, en efecto, fue a Ginebra y allí obtuvo la burguesía, en 1521. Su hijo Ami, nacido en 1526, señor de Choulez, fue embajador y general. Incluso en Piamonte el linaje se ha mostrado por la grandeza de sus miembros.
