Antica ed assai nobile famiglia piemontese, con residenza in Moncalieri, di chiara ed avita virtù, conosciuta come Varrò o Varrà, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. La famiglia venne elevata alla nobiltà nell'anno 1389 ed un suo ramo ha parimenti goduto nobiltà in Ginevra. Un Pierino, infatti, si recò in Ginevra ed ivi ottenne la borghesia, nel 1521. Il di lui figlio Ami, nato nel 1526, signore di Choulez, fu ambasciatore e generale. Anche in Piemonte il casato si è illustrato per l'elevatezza dei suoi membri. Molti si distinsero infatti nelle professioni giuridiche e nelle carriere militari. Il consegmamento dell'arma, come riportato dal Barone Antonio Manno, è avvenuto nel 1613.
