Antichissima e nobile prosapia italiana, originaria di Bene ma passata poi in Fossano, entrambi comuni piemontesi nel cuneese, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia e del Mondo. Conosciuta nei registri araldici come Carrassi, nel tempo i suoi tanti rami sono stati talvolta trascritti diversamente. Tra le forme attestate capeggiano Varrassi e Carazzo; più rare, ma presenti, le forme Carasso, Varasso e Carrozza. Il primo personaggio di cui abbiamo menzione è un Carlo, tesoriere della Casa di S. A. sino al 1638. Si ricordino anche: Onorato, notaio e benefattore della Chiesa di Bene; Giorgio, da Bene, giudice e consigliere delle acque di Bene, reggente vicario di Fossano e avvocato fiscale patrimoniale di Fossano; Giovanni Michele, Cavaliere SS. Maurizio e Lazzaro, primo aiutante di Camera di S. A e comandante di Bene, il quale acquistò il feudo di Pramolo. Il di lui figlio Carlo
