Antica ed assai nobile famiglia piemontese, di chiara ed avita virtù, conosciuta come Vasto o del Vasto, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diversi luoghi d'Italia e del Mondo. Di discendenza aleramica e di origini franche, essa fu signora di molti luoghi non solo in Piemonte, specialmente nei territori tra Saluzzo ed Alessandria, ma anche nella Liguria occidentale. I loro domini infatti includevano la marca di Savona e parte delle Langhe e delle contee di Acqui e di Bredulo. Con il matrimonio di Adelasia del Vasto con il normanno Ruggero d'Altavilla, la casata estese il proprio dominio anche ad alcuni importanti feudi siciliani e, per breve tratto, al Regno di Gerusalemme. Numerosissime ed illustri sono le pubblicazioni che trattano di questa prosapia, tra le quali spiccano: "I marchesi di Saluzzo e i loro successori" di Carlo Beltrami (1885) e "Dai marchesi del Vasto ai primi marchesi di Saluzzo: sviluppi signorili
