L'Imperatore Carlo V, con diploma 10 Maggio 1533, conferiva a Tiziano Vecellio la nobiltà ereditaria, e lo innalzava al grado di cavaliere (Miles) e di conte del Cesareo Imperiale Concistoro. Oltre il celebre Tiziano summenzionato, questa famiglia à prodotto molti pittori di merito eminente. Da un'antica bibliografia stampata in Firenze dalla tipografia delle Murate nell'anno 1866, intitolato "Libro dei nobili veneti, ora per la prima volta messo in luce", come rilevasi dall'opera summenzionata la famiglia è originaria del Veneto. E' gran segno di nobiltà d'una famiglia il denominarsi col nome di quella Città, Terra, ò Castello, che per lunghissimo tempo signoreggiò; poiche da ciò s'argumenta à ch'essa essendo di molta potenza, e grandezza dato habbia il nome alla Città, Terra, ò Castello da lei posseduto, e forse anche primieramente edificato, ò vero ch'essendo in piedi fin da quei tempi certamente antichissimi, ne' quali dal dominio de' loro stati i più
