E' opinione degli storici che i Vidoa, Vedova, Vedovi e Vedovati, siano tutti rami di un unico ceppo. I Vedovaldi vennero da Bergamo ed erano ricchi mercanti. Gasparo nel 1493, nella sua qualità di Segretario del Senato Veneto, era interprete delle lingue forestiere; e come tale traduceva a perfezione nel dialetto paesano i discorsi degli oratori francesi e spagnoli. Egli fu incaricato il 12 agosto 1503 di scrivere a Roma il dolore di Venezia per la morte di Alessandro VI. Questo eminente personaggio della Casa, e che potrebbe anche denominarsi Vedovi, fu chiamato a difendere le ragioni delicatissime che aveva incontrato la Repubblica contro il Marchese di Mantova nel 1509, causa le logiche rivendicazioni del patrizio Carlo Valier. Di Gaspare, morto il 4 aprile 1524, si ricorda che al 1. febbraio 1521 ebbe uno scatto di sdegno nella chiesa di S. M. Formosa, contro il Vice Doge Francesco Foscari perchè
