Secondo una cronica scritta da un Donato (n. 1313), che fu giudice e gonfaloniere di giustizia in Firenze nel 1358 e 1378, la sua fam. sarebbe stata una di quelle che dall'antichissimo castello di Senifonte discesero ad abitare in Firenze. Egli da Bice Covoni (1340) ebbe il figlio Michele, che fu dei priori in patria nel 1388 e generò Andrea, il quale esercitò con profitto l'arte della lana e fu padre di Pietro (1443-1506), valente giureconsulto e priore nel 1471. Da lui venne Raffaello, coi nipoti del quale la famiglia si divise in due rami: uno che passò in Ispagna, dove prosperò grandemente colla mercatura; e l'altro che rimase ancora in Firenze, cui appartenne Luigi, dottore e priore nel 1519, conservatore e gonfaloniere di giustizia in Firenze, poi capitano di Livorno, che da Baccia Capponi ebbe Paolo, autore di un'altra interessantissima Cronica domestica (1555), edita da Luigi Passerini nel 1873.
