Há duas linhagens que actulmente usam este apelido; uma, a verdadeira, originária da Galiza qua passou a Portugal na pessoa de António, no tempo de D. Fernando U; por desgostos que tivera com o rei castelhano D. Henrique II; a outra, natural da província da Beira, cuja designação própria é Velosa, embora hoje, em parte, se chamem Velosas. De António V. nasceram do matrimónio filhos que se conservaram na província do Minho, conde o apelido perdurou. Talvez, como aconteceu com outras famílias, da Galia, os Velosos hajam passado diversas vezes a Portugal. Timbre: o açor do escudo com a perdiz na garra direita.
