Aldobrandino V. nel 1552 scriveva nei suoi Ricordi di famiglia che a questa fin da antico tempo spettava il titolo "dei conti" col predicato feudale "di Strido" e che di tale titolo avevano fatto pubblico e pacifico uso molti dei rappresentanti la stirpe. Notizie documentali precise si hanno di un Piero, vivente nella seconda metà del secolo XIV, e dei suoi figli Leonardo e Martino, dal secondo dei quali nacque Piero, che generò un altro Leonardo, dai figli del quale si originarono quattro distinti rami: quello di Michele, il cui quartogenito Niccolò fu ricevuto nell'Ordine Stefaniano l'anno 1583, come suo figlio Michele nel 1615, colla sorella del quale, Apollonia, maritata in Brogi e morta nel 1649; quello di Jacopo, il cui pronipote cav. Amanzio stabilitosi a Marsiglia, pervenne coll'esercito della mercatura a cospicuo stato, e fu nel 1639 insignito della croce, poi nel 1643 della collana dell'Ordine di San Michele;
