Nobile famiglia genovese, distinta in guerra e commercio, molto presente nelle vicende politiche della Repubblica di Genova tra il XII e il XIII secolo, quando diversi esponenti della famiglia ricoprirono importanti incarichi nel governo della Repubblica. Tra le personalità più influenti della famiglia emergono le figure dei fratelli Guglielmo e Ogerio Vento, entrambi spesso consoli nella seconda metà del XII secolo. Un altro Guglielmo Vento fu signore di Mentone nel XIII secolo. Dal XIV secolo un suo ramo si trasferì in Sicilia, esercitando pubblici uffici ad Erice e Trapani tra il XV e il XVII secolo. Questa casa aveva un proprio insediamento nell'attuale Piazza San Giorgio, all'epoca centro della città medievale racchiusa dalle mura di età carolingia, dove sorgeva una torre di sua proprietà, oggi ricordata da una lapide nel luogo in cui sorgeva . I Vento sono ricordati anche per aver fondato nel borgo di Vesima, intorno al 1160,
