Antichissima famiglia, il cui capostipite si rinviene in un Diotaiuti, padre di Bonagiunta, giudice a Cortona nel 1240, dal cui figlio, Venuto, "praefectus Castri Cartonensis", nacque un Vanni, che generò Angelo Balduccio. Dal primo di essi, che fu del Consiglio di Cortona nel 1408, si originarono, con il suo discendente Niccolò, priore nel 1504, due rami: quello di Donato, che si estinse con Ludovico, priore in patria nel 1744, iscritto al Patriziato di Cortona, con decreto 5 giugno 1750, e quello di Bernardino che, con lo stesso decreto, ottenne eguale iscrizione in persona di detto cav. e comm. Marcello, nel 1740 creato "marchese" dal Re di Napoli, per i segnalati servigi resi a quella Corona, in qualità di capitano di milizie e di luogotenente delle galere del Reame; da lui, che era stato priore in patria nel 1726, nacquero il cav.
