Antichissimo casato, di origine lombarda, stabilitosi, primieramente, in L'Aquila, al cui patriziato venne ascritto, e, dopo il 1750, in Roma. Il 31 dic. 1209 in consulato Mediolani, essendo Console Visconte de Reziolo, fu unitamente ad altri suoi colleghi pronunciata sentenza nella lite mossa dalla Chiesa di Monza a Filippo, Martino, Benedetto e Zanone, detti Vepri, tutti del luogo di Monguzzo per costringerli a pagare sessanta soldi di terzuoli. Clemente XIII, il 31 luglio 1766, conferì ad Alessandro Vepri il titolo di marchese. Pio VI, inoltre, conferì ai membri della famiglia Vepri il titolo di marchese sulla terra di Rota, in data 3 febbraio 1789. Il patriziato romano fu ottenuto, dalla famiglia, il 23 aprile 1843, in persona di Alessandro da cui Giovanni, sposatosi con Giovanna dei marchesi patrizi Naro Montoro. Fu suo figlio Carlo sposo di Maddalena Monaco La Valletta. Contrassero parentela anche con i Pallavicini, Bisleti, Cavalletti e Curti.
